Billy & Cathie McFarlenBilly & Cathie McFarlen

Inducted TTA HOF in 2026

Billy and Cathie McFarlen began shooting trap in 1996 & 1997 respectively with influence from their friends Marvin Albright and John Norman. Soon after their marriage in 1997 they joined the ATA and have enjoyed shooting, influenced others to shoot trap, improved gun clubs and shoots throughout Texas and have made many good friends along the way. In 2012 the addition of Sadie completed the “McFarlen Trapshooting Team.” The McFarlens have been heavily involved in trapshooting as they are lifetime members of the TTA and the Waco Skeet and Trap Club (WSTC), where they have both served on the board of directors and Billy as Zone IV president.

Billy recorded 77,450 singles, 66,100 handicap, and 70,400 doubles, and Cathie recorded 55,625 singles, 39,700 handicap, and 28,550 doubles. Combined they have registered a grand total of 337,125 targets. The majority of their shooting has been in Texas, and they attended
the Grand American twice where Billy earned a trophy both times. Combined they have amassed almost 200 trophies in Texas. Two of Billy’s proudest accomplishments are a doubles shootoff over Gunner Knight at the Tyler Gun Club to win one of the coveted yellow rose buckles and another in 2014 winning HOA at the Bair Hatcher Memorial. For Cathie, a couple of major highlights were making the Lady State Team and when she bought a new shotgun at the 2012 State Shoot which carried her to a 94 in the Handicap soon followed by a 96 later that season.

The McFarlens have enormously contributed to the sport of trapshooting in many ways and treasure the friendships they have made over the years. They assumed responsibility for the WSTC trap program in 1999 making major improvements and establishing WSTC as a trap destination. They improved the club facility, and handled all duties associated with hosting trapshoots. They traveled great distances borrowing trap machines to ensure WSTC was in rotation for the Zone IV shoot.

Billy’s target setting expertise is widely known and he has been a state target setting committee anchor since 2004. If crawling into trap houses had an award Billy would be champion. You never see him at the end of a shoot without target dust on his clothes or his hands. Billy & Cathie have incredibly given to the TTA and improved the sport of trap shooting in Texas.
